Sarah Pritchard was born March 10, 1839, in Caldwell County, North Carolina (now part of Avery County) which is located in the steep region of Grandfather Mountain. Sarah Pritchard was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Pritchard, and the sixth of nine children.
